| I have only just begun to use hair straighteners so I don't know much about them. I just wondered - is it safe to use styling spray/ oil based moisturisers on the hair before using an electric straightener? When you apply these moisturisers to the hair, it can appear wet - is this safe in terms of applying an electric straightener? I hope this makes sense!

I usually apply sprays/oils after straightening.Although it depends on what type of product u use. If the spray is quite
thick, the heat on the oil has the effect of frying which isn't advisable.

U should try using a very light oil moisturiser sof'n'free do a good one or try using an oil sheen spray slighty spray your whole head and that avoids it from making that sizzling noise. If you go into boots there's a huge range of heat styling products suitable to use on all types of hair

Just invest in a very good ceramic straightner GHD is the best... was about £98 last time i checked... also buy the heat protection spray which is specifically made for the straightner.
You'll never know my hair is natural when i starighten it with the ceramic iron and only takes less than 10 minutes to do.

These GHD straighteners sound great - it's a pity they are so expensive. I actually have a good hair straightener which I bought in the USA for 30 dollars (only about £18) but the electric plug system is different in the UK so I can't use it. At the moment I am using a straightener which only reaches 180 degrees which isn't very effective.

Why not just purchase an adapter from a hardware store, it costs like a pound or two...

Use scp straigteners they are cheaper than GHD and actually better as they are solid ceramic not just ceramic coated.... and you can vary the heat temperature.
BARGAIN!!

| I'm cheap, and I admit it. I refused to pay £90 for hair straighteners so I shopped around. I bought a brand called prolectrix from superdrug. They have solid ceramic plates and look just like GHD's. They have five heat settings and the highest is 210 degress, too hot for normal hair btw. Guess what, they only cost £12.99!

| I thought GHDs were solid ceramic, that's why the price is so high, all straighteners that say 'ceramic' are simply ceramic coated and only the ones that say 'solid ceramic' are solid. I have one by Wahl which is quite good, and reaches 200 degrees, but I plan to invest in a pair of GHDs because they're meant to be better.
