I'd like to know, (and I know I'm not alone), if any of the suggestions in this forum ever get taken up.
Occasionally we'll get reponses from mods such as, 'I'll put it to other mods...' or we hear nothing.
Can anyone give examples of ideas that has been takened up?
Remind us again of the point of this board?

We DO put it to each other and go through the practicalities and so on of the suggestions at hand. These things can take some time bearing in mind that we arent all here at the same time.
Also a lot of the suggestions require a lot of work to be done and its not you or us thats gonna be doing it but mainly admin so we think carefully about how many ideas we put to them out of the many we get (some come to us through PM).
Some times (Ill be honest) we dont all respond and we forget about it. Its up to you who had the suggestion to make sure it gets folllowed through since it was your suggestion. You dont just throw an idea in the air and expect things to happen.
Other times it means we discussed the idea and for one reason or another thought that it wasnt worthwhile and left it there.

You dont just throw an idea in the air and expect things to happen.
I don't think anyone does this DM, but what they would like, is at least a reponse to know what is actually happening with an idea suggested.
Has there been ANY suggestion that has actually been takened up?

Thanks for your reply MBD and yes I did put that idea forward. Trouble is, after suggesting it, the forum appeared, but I wouldn't had known if was down to me, because no one said so.
I'm not looking for glory, just that I think it would be nice if people's ideas were acknowledge, if anything, to give us incentive to carry on giving suggestions!

I hear what u saying Athaba...i mean Incognito got his name on the awards...Mafdet methinks (if my memory is correct) got credit for naming this place a village...personally I think it should be called Athaba's Sports Forum...or Sports Forum subtitled "Courtesy of Athaba"

Athaba: I hope you will forgive my late reply..unfortunately when i saw your initial question i was not able to respond properly because of time..
Anyway to answer your question, almost everthing here has been the result of Village input for instance:-
The name VILLAGE was added after Mafdet called it that in the earky days..Admin and I felt it encapsulated perfectly what this place was about..
The requirements of membership was changed after Ijexa's suggestion that only members could start threads, use the PM system and so on..Guests posters before this suggestion could also had this privilage and it caused mayhem..
The spirituality & religion forum was started when posters like seventh heaven and another muslim posters (whos name escapes me for the moment asked for this to happen).
The IT, Art and Photography, the News forum, The book and the history forum occured in the same way by villagers either asking me directly or suggesting their creation.
One of the other Mods made the point that we are bad at acknowledging input, and i've attempted to address this in the lastest input by insisting that LadyDay & opinionated were acknowledged as the creators of the Black roots forum..
I will also make one final point in that the very fact that the villagers allowed me to moderate on my own initially and now collectively with others is the very reason why Blacknet still exists while others decline.. I mean that truthfully i discovered recently for the first time just how close this place came to extinction a few years back..
So my point is that if it wasn't for the support the Moderation team gets on and off the boards this place just wouldn't be here fullstop..so people need to be aware of that too...

@Athaba. Really good to see people like yourself who put energy and take seriously the constant improvement of the site.
@All. it has been mentioned before by Talibah. But would be great if we had a good search mechanism. Often like now I can't find or remember a particular thread's name. Also very important for research purposes and I think this is a market or client base which could be exploited.
I have used and intend to use many artilcles and stuff which has been posted for work purposes eg articles on gun crime, all those pieces on Tony Sewell and that massive Sunday Times piece. Saves researchers serious time and effort and also introduces them to site.
Perhaps and I am really taking liberties with resources here. But one day we can work to having some kind of system which logs all key articles on specific issues, even with discussion links attached, along with links to all the key data basis and offical records or documents which relate to us. So for example you could have a link of the Department or Education and Science giving all the usual base data concerning us and education, links to published articles and then our discussion links atttached or nearby.
This combines both official and formal data and reports to qualitative data eg what ordinary people think and feel in terms of discussion. As a data source simply cannot beat that combination and that will attract a whole group of people and get that sources name around.
