hello,
I'm new to this website and have one comment to make.
I've noticed that a lot of black websites have a black colour background: I think this is a sort of self-stereotyping and it really does no good to the sense of general associations that the use of colours can invoke.
When you mix black and green - you get incongruity and lack of balance.
When you mix black and red you've got voodoo and superstition.
When you put a bright colour on a black background, the bright colour comes off as too loud and unsophisticated.
Preferable to have black/coloured text on white background, or gold text on a black background (if you must have a black background)
All colours belong to all human beings. Africans should use white or other bright colours more often as background colour in their websites. The webmasters should give this a try.

Sorry I disagree with you as I know there are many black specific websites with white and other colourd backgrounds, infact a lot more than there is that are black. If this site decided to go down that road then it would spoil my enjoyment and that of many others, as for it been sterio typical that is just your perception and those of your mindset.

Why should losing the black background lessen 'your enjoyment'?
Wasn't it the 'let's keep everything as they are', the, 'everything is normal' and the 'it couldn't possibly happen to us' menatality what helped sink the Titanic?

Because I like the Black background it's as simple as that. I believe the Titanic sank on it's maiden voyage which ment it was no good in the first place.

The black background is going to stay, regardless of what I/we say. Except for the black background being behind the logo, (which I like), I just find it rather twee. But however, it would look good for T-Shirts and posters and other stuff!

Exactly,
the yellowish gold of the logo is quite sombrely intelligent against the black background. That is why it makes a statement of its own that no other aspect of the website does.
Anyhow, those were my two cents. Like I said colours are universal.
Blue for spiritual depth and imagination.
Yellow for innocence and warmth.
Green for plenty. Light green, especially, for sublimity especially if used colour smartly.
White for purity.
All colours belong to all people
