i was just asked by Blackbeauty what changes i would like to see in the Village and i thought that would be a good question to ask the peoples dem?!
So what would you like to see in the Village that isnt here now!?

 Isn't the Comments and Suggestions the place for this? But it seems no-one takes much notice of there anyway, so it might as well be here!
I'll repeat what i did post in there though and it was i think the website needs a name change. From 'Blacknet' which is ok, but i think its time it should reflect our nationality/heritage now, something like 'Africannet'.
What do others think?

What about taking out some of the useless pages there are tons of them! Then there are some which are hopelessly out of date - what's with that!?
All i can say is that there is a lot of tidying up to do around here!

Athaba: On the changing the name from Blacknet, to Africannet...I agree that we haveb moved on and should link to a land mass instead of colour.. However the problem with renaming this Village is I think to do with Branding. Its fair to say that Blacknet is now a recognised name that gives it a profile higher than some other sites. Therefore changing it might not only affect this but also the ease in which we can be form on the internet..
Precious Stone: new avatars yes I agree..
Athaba: On deleating pages?threads not sure which one you actually meant, we did have a debate among ourselves as Mods regarding this and the agreement is, that some threads can be deleted if two or more Mods agree.. However i personally don't like deleting threads per se as they act as a record of our BN village history..

 Since you're in a listening mood....
No I mean the stuff like the mailing list/webpals pages etc. There seem to be enough of them, where they need deleting or are in serious need of updating. 
Some are also quite hidden too, like the excellent homelands and education page - I think they should be more up front - don't ask me how!!! LOL! I mean I only found it by accident, because one day the forums was not availiable at one time.
Also I think we could lose the black background don't u think? A bit old hat.
And some pages we seem to have to take a long route to get to, 4 example the chat pages and they could do with some clearer information too. One chat room requires a registration etc., others don't? what's with that?
I'm really want a hatchet job don't I? - lol!
Take your point about the brandname being recognisable. As I was typing it I was thinking that it may be hard to do. But hey, brand new era, brand new makeover what do you think?!!!

Athaba: Ok I see your point, can't say that i disagree.except for the blackground bit..lets see blacknet..blackground geddit? Ok maybe not..
I hear you on the brand name thing (i have to say I really really hate the concept behind branding), My personal thoughts are that Blacknet is a recognisable name and I think it might not be a good idea to lose it.. there is no doubt for instance that it was the name that helped rescue the Village when it was in the doldrums.. and it is also when gives it the edge over othersites..
personally arguing against myself for a moment I would love a name change for purly self fish reasons.. I cannot acces this site at work because the 'blackchat' component of the title automatically gets blocked by the firewall..really annoying..
anyway I've taken the liberty of copying your thoughts to the admin team as I'm sure they will find it interesting...ok

Oh i understood the concept for the black blackground - don't get me wrong - its just that i thought it may be a bit trite now - i have no real major problem with it though - just an idea. Also haven't you noticed that quite a few - (especially any site to do with reggae and Jamaica), seem to have this type of background? At least they use to - i have not visited many recently to check if they still do.
Anyway thanks for taking the ideas further.

What about selling stuff? Many people have mentioned books but it seem a bit of hassle to: a) locate them, then, b) obtaining them to buy!
It'll be good if we could go to another page on 'blacknet' and buy books and other merchandise, ( all things from people of colour or of african descent), on here. Wouldn't 'blacknet' will benefit too?
I would especially like to buy authentic African things for example.
What do you think?

Forum: i should say that if people think Athaba's idea about selling stuff is a good one maybe it would help push this along if people actually posted an interest for such a service so that the Blacknet powers that be can gauge interest...

Athaba & Forum: The powers that be say that they are looking into the possibility, but are unable to make any firm promises.. So again I suggesting that it would help make up their minds if people physically resgistered an interest in Athaba's idea by posting on this thread..that way Blacknet can gauge the viability of such a venture...So come on lets have your comments..

hey kunjufu, i think that the promotion idea is a good one and is there a way in which that could be used so that people like myself could add images of said book so that people know what they're looking and things like that? (mainly because it could benefit me but otherwise)
i think also that the avatars space should be increased so users can have a wiser range of images to use to represent them. some people dont actually know that there are ACTUAL avatars and that you can downsize a picture and use it. maybe if we could increase the size your allowed to use or maybe change the avatars idea and change it to general pictures!

Originally I was thinking about established sellers to sell their wares here, but promotion good too.
There is, I happen to notice, already a site doing what you suggested via a link called 'buy and sell'. From the little I've seen, its all American.
What's with that? Why are there links to pages, that seemingly have nothing to do with UK Blacknet? I wouldn't mind if before you click on the link, it tells you you are going away from Blacknet, but they don't.

Hi Athaba - you have obviously spent more time exploring the nooks and crannies of the village than I have! I really only come to the forums so I am not really aware of all the links that you are speaking about.
Perhaps the daddy of us all (kunjufu!) can give us some insight on the buy and sell link that you mentioned?  KUNJUFU!!!
I agree with you, though, I think BN should tell its viewers when a link is leading then away from BN and I will foward that to admin for their consideration.
As far as the promotion/selling thing goes....I personally envisioned something that would be for members only. I think that members should be rewarded for their loyalty and for making the village what it is and if they have special services/products (which the BN admin MUST approve!) then there should be a place where they can advertise. The public can then contact the member through an assigned BN email address...so all the activity stays on the BN server.
Now if you were thinking of something more formal with established vendors, that is a good idea also. certainly would generate business for BN and ultimately business = money = power to make a difference!

| i am african american who living in detoit,mi ,I go up to wayne state university and us the computors where the forigners have to over they look down on black people our women in the city do'nt give us the common kurtius by talking to us on the street or edknowing there blackness they rather be known as mix race or hisspanic than black or african american. we also have a problem with lite skined blacks who think there better than darker skined blacks who want to be white or think white people are better blacks . some of these lite skined blacks and also mix race peoples are keeping up trouble in the black community by ling to of blacks about racism or it do'nt exstint or geting of blacks hook on drugs or in doing crimmal acts in the community where they live to destroy the patrient trust and responisablity to the child these people are like vulture and the plaigue to our community they need to be exspelled the white and these forigner are preying on our community to keep our community divided and weak with no true repersentation of our community i am tirer of being imtimadate and coherist to help somebody i know that they is'nt good to help out white person for good of the neigborhood

When one is in a particular forum, instead of having to go back to the sub-menu, is it possible to have a button to click on so that you can jump from one topic to another in that forum without having to continually go back to the sub-menu?
