Black businesses get overseas trade boost
A new project to prepare black and ethnic minority (BME) owned businesses for international trade was launched in London on Tuesday.
\nGlobal Gateway2Trade, a project led by oneLondon in collaboration with UK Trade & Investment was formally launched by Sir Gulam Noon, chairman of Noon food products business.
The scheme's creators say it will, "challenge the myth that international trade is only for larger firms, by showing small, innovative BME businesses how to access overseas markets".
People signing up to the scheme will receive one-to-one advice and have access to workshops and seminars, giving them the appropriate know-how to be competitive in international business.
Workshop titles include: 'How to Get Paid,' 'Protecting your Ideas: How to Safeguard your Intellectual Property' and a full-day 'International Trade Toolbox'.
The advice and workshops will be run in collaboration with six Enterprise Agencies in North, East and West London.
Export ready businesses will also have access to expert strategic advice and information from international trade advisers at UK Trade & Investment's regional office for London.
"When I arrived in the UK I relied on family and networks to help my businesses grow," said Noon.
"I think this is true of many black and ethnic minority businesses. Global Gateway2Trade compliments this network by providing practical support to expand to market overseas and offers easy access to the many available resources."
