@LadyDay, Dillinger, Black Power and Peacemaker and any folks from the Midlands generally and the county of Leicestershire/Leicester specifically. Some help needed for a sister academic friend of mine who is going to the above area with short notice to do some work. She is a Londoner and knows little about that part of the world other than their is nuff Asians and a few black people there.
Some of the things she would like to know are:
1. Where are good and safe places to live in the county of Leicestershire and Leicester specifically
2. What are the average costs for accomodation in that part of the world.
3. Where are the local shops which cater for our people's needs in terms of food etc and not talking about Asians unless no other alternatives.
4. Local hairdressers because you know black women like looking sharp.
5. Places to go eg socially and things to see not restricted to the city of Leicester because she drives and would like to visit the county and if possible some places in Notts.
Any other info would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help. I know the sister will appreciated any info provided.

Highfields (south of the city centre) is the area most poplutaed by carribeans mostly from Jamaica, Antigua & Barbuda and Monseratt.

Leicester has a African Caribbean centre worth a check out, most impressive premises i have ever seen
in the city centre there is a black owned black hair shop called Stabana's you wont get range like you would in london but you will get your needs met
tell her wonderful thing about the midlands is that all the other cities are close by and day trips out are not unheard of
i went uni in leicester and highfields was given loads of mention
just make sure her research is done and come down and see for herself
leicester is a lot safer than the likes of notts and brum

| I went to uni in Woverhampton. Your right about the cities being close to each other. I never really ventured to Leicester, but I did go to Birmingham quite a bit

@LadyDay and Judge..thanks for that. I know Brum and Wolves is around the corner from Leicester. Leeds is not that far but not sure of the milage because I use to stop at Leicester East service station on the M1 on my way to Leeds, which was just over the half way mark or more...Just curious...
