Hello people.
Just wanted to share my new project and see what people think. It's basically a free information portal for all, black people primarily and then young people.
It is a photo gallery, forum and e-Billboard. I'm also offering web design and services via the site and the whole thing is a side project as I still work full time.
The plan is to eventually develop the services into a full IT and web consultancy.
Any constructive criticism (or praise and endorsements) are most welcome.
Cheers peeps.
Check it out... http://www.los-negros.com
PS: I know there may be some reservations about the name, but Los Negros is Spanish for The Blacks and is also the name of a Spanish island.
Holla at me directly: mailto:bigglesworth@los-negros.com

If you are adamant about being called "black", why not then use an african language to denote your self as such? Have your pick from Yoruba, Bantu, or whatever. Some of the languages termed Bantu would say Kami for "Blacks". But "negro", brother no, no, no.

Unfortunately I don't speak any African languages. Otherwise I may have thought of naming the site using an African word.
However, are you saying it is wrong to refer to yourself as a black person? If so, why? The sight is called "The Blacks". This forum is called "The Black Forum", the URL is "blackchat.co.uk"? Do you also believe this forum is named badly?
Ponder.

There is nothing wrong with calling yourself "black", but I don't agree with using a European word for black to do it since they invariably denote vileness, negativity, or even pure evil. The word "black" in an African language has no such denotation as it does in the European lexicon.

So therefore you also believe that the forum you are currently posting on is flawed in its usage of the word black in its title.
The meanings of words are open to interpretation, for example the white cloth of a Klu Klux Klan members uniform, invokes images of evil and injustice, red is depicted by Europeans to be the natural colour of the Devil, yet the Chinese see the red as a lucky colour and thus have a red flag.
Ponder.

Yes I do, and this has been discussed to a small length in a thread I previously created here...

No one has command or ownership over a color; therefore, it is invariably different from language. Banded groups of people own particular languages. So when we use another language to describe ourselves, our image and identity is now defined by those who own the language.

Interesting!
I ask this question, already knowing the answer, but I'm guessing you would suggest that as children of the West African Holocaust, we abandon the European Languages adopted and revert to an African language of our choosing?
Or should we discover exactly which (if possible) country we individualy descended from and learn and adopt that language?
An interesting proposition!
Do Africans have a written language that can be used throughout? One that could be used on computer keyboards, adopted into Document writers such as Microsoft Word and the like?
I would like to see it, for I would certainly be an early adopter!

I think that the adoption of an African language in a written form would be perhaps the most progressive pronouncements for a collective African people to do now. Although it is great, in the mean time we need to at least start with avoiding the descriptive language of the European when denoting ourselves.

Just wondering!
There have been comments about the name (which to be fair, is not much different from starting a forum called the BLACK Professional), but no comments on the actual site, the concept, design etc. Dont worry, I can take constructive criticism, just looking for some feedback.
I have lots of little projects in mind and am using this as my guinea pig.

I did comment but ended up edditting it.
Its a nice site but it feels a bit cold I'm not a fan (ha ha) of cold coloured websites where people are expected to spend time on. You even have an icelandic albino tiger up in the top left hand corner and the pic of the kids looks like they're in deep freeze, minus the sparkle in their eyes. Inglebert is posting pictures of women with no relation to the site and its content, bound to put people off. I like the woman in the Forums section, my type of woman that... but again the forum is cold and grey, the template is also unorigional which is why I like BNV, Ligalis site is professional has good functions. There needs to be a mix of both, origionality as well as that ease of use and functionability.
The name does have a ring to it minus the whole what it means bit, its the word Negro some don't like it because its may be connected to the word ?Necro? but people tend to vary on that some say its even from Kemit and means something totally difrent but I think the general design and feel to itn't quite upto par with what it prehaps could be... seeing past the whole name thing, and liking it for the sake of it the site design and originality in regards to its content and functions needs changing to sound as roll off the tounge as the rhyme to its name, Los Neg-ros as it does sound kind of fly and fasionable.....

Ok, thats fair comment (in parts). It seems that colours may be an issue. As for the Albino tiger... they don't actually come from Iceland, but I previously had a black panther and may put it back.
Seeing as Large cats are found in Africa, I believed both representations to be significant.
With regards to Ingleberts pictures, as a user, you have the right to put any pictures you want in your gallery. There are many free online photo albums on the net at the moment, I'm just adding a new one within this portal.
For example, if a student photographer wanted to share their photos online (publicly or privately), which happend to include photos like the one you like in the forum, then thats their prerogative.
I'm not sure what you mean about the forum not being original. I've used a skin that was developed by somebody else yes, but most forums do this and adding new skins with phpbb is relatively easy. In terms of functionality, it's almost as functional as BNV, minus the psuedo-WYSIWYG editor.
However your comments have been taken onboard and I appreciate them.
One up.

I was just saying what it felt like to me, I'm sure the albino tiger would look good with a diffrent design or something but it just added to a kind of chill I felt on visiting... obviously its on the right hand side, I've got a headache.... the panther you have on now looks too agressive. The student photo thing is a good idea as long as it dosen't get out of hand .lol.
This is all my opinion.
I own a business myself, had the opening yesterday hence the headache and hangover, no one knows better than you what your business/site is or should be saying identity wise or in general, its your brain child. I'm only commenting on what I thought/think about it in general and to me I think you have to live up to your name as it is a good one, again, forgetting the stigma, its got a ring to it that makes it easy to remember. It does in itself say that its for Black people rather than any other group, probably get alot of Spanish/Portugese people it out as well, Brazilians and such.
If you really want peoples opinion its probably best to take a look into marketing and how to do surverys if you want to take it that far... good if you're in uni as well, easy to do being around your target market. It involves not letting people know what you're about to avoid bias and other things that help get a well balanced opinion and veiws as to what people want from a site/business/service.
No links page?
Again, this is all my opinion don't let anyone over influence your creative vision.

Ha. My girlfriend says the panther is too aggressive as well. I think I might create a rotating image that displays lots of cats from the mother land, including my panther and elegant albino white tiger.
(I hope your dislike for the tiger is not based on its colour... lol, would be comical if it were... considering!)

I liked it. The website is tight. Congrats.
Los Negros literally translates as The Blacks or Place of the Blacks. I don't see how this is a negative term. Infact I think its a cool title.
Good luck wit it, I might sign up and post a few things to give you some hits...help a brother out

Thanks bro. Appreciate it! Hope to see you on the forums or in the galleries soon.
I'll be integrating a chat room soon, just another addition to Los Negros Portal.
Peace

To be fair the site is called Los Negros "E" - Village and modelled on an information portal.
BN Village is a forum primarily and has grown since. My site has added a forum and will add a chatroom as additions to an internet community portal which is commonplace these days on the web.
... booty and swearing... lol.
The chat room will be free speech, because thats the nature of chatting.
