if you work in the city it's alright...as long as you know how to be tactful and your work is impeccable there are people from different backgrounds. When I first started working in the city it was a rarity to see a black person....okay slight exaggeration, but comparing the situation to now there are so many black people up in the city it's unbelievable. What made you ask the question?

| I wanted to change careers and get into cooperate type work . I noticed its a rarety to see blck people in high positions and its worse up north england as the population is not much for black people. I noticed while doing my internships is that the higher i went its like theres resentment for people of colour with goals. Its like for you to fit in you kinda have to play a jiggaboo role.

I don't know what it's like in England but if you say "cooperate world" when you mean "corporate world" the palefaces are going to look at you real funny. Like, OH NO ANOTHER IGNANT N***R.
I was in technology at IBM not sales or management. The machines don't care. All that matter was if I could fix them. But you have to pretend to be a good little Oreo Cookie Negro 8 hours a day but it is worth it for the money.
You must keep your priorities straight it is about THE MONEY.
The class and status and picking up women looking for calss and status and economic security is not what it's about. It is about
THE MONEY!
don't blow it after you get it.

^^^ I agree with the above.
I'm studying business and it does get annoying having to be some type of cookie for white people day in and day out. First off I'm not one for cookies and second those people will attempt to steal your soul. Oh its ok if you intend to be the next Chris Eubanks and marry a white person to celebrate your entry in the co-operate world but if they EVER see you shaking it to 50 Cent or acting ''black'' in anyway they'll only find it hard to respect you and feel no way but to say things such as...
''I hate black people, not you, I mean you're ok but... you know''
Urgh! There is NO ACCEPTANCE peopleand I'll say it until my tounge falls out THERE IS NO ACCPETANCE! Its why I've decided to be self-employed cause if they don't respect or acknowledge me for my hard work then BOOM! Out they go! Back into the caves for them! I won't go into how my mom has worked in the same position for years without a promotion only to see the college white girl stroll in and snatch a job that she can't do let alone take seriously.
This really is a discussion for another forum because it can be tough having to appear all primrose for executives... so personally I don't bother, my true colours are all over me and I look like a 'criminal' no matter what (I have scars from a mis-spent youth) so I think F' it really and appoach them with a bit of street confidence mixed with elongated words and jargon enough to bust the cranium of any white homosapien.
Its all jealously really.... watch out for the rasicts that don't even know they're rasict... their ignorance goes THAT far trust, had one lady walk up to me and a few of my fellow negroid collegues and say,
''I think that some of us are horses and some of us are monkeys''
To then go on and attempt to justify herself by naming a few of us Negroids as Horses and only a few as monkeys.. to be honest she caught me out totally and I thought it was a nieve comment but looking back I feel to get monkey on her ass and burn her car
(I will do it... trust me, I'll show them how us ''monkeys'' do, half of them white cats forget that they're just as animal as any animal and prone to get nyam saaaame way!)
Other half hat comments include,
''I feel like a slave driver in here''
And, ''you people etc etc....''
All is good but watch yourself and don't be afraid to speak out after ANY incident, always threaten them... with law suits and remember that theres plently more jobs out there so Mr. Whitey can go suffocate in his own smog for all you care.

| wow @ resentment - I've no idea where you did your internship but that sounds like the dark ages to me...where I work it's a global corporate company and the representation is excellent - the further up you go the better it looks for the firm. If that is your experience I suggest you look for companies whose ethos is great. The company I work for now has it's own thriving African Caribbean network and we are actively encouraged to work along with 100black men, our firm also has a scholarship for kids between 11 - 14 to learn about black history, so I would suggest you go out there and search....which companies have you currently got your eye on?

Resentment... That'd be a cool name. Might consider it next time.
I work for Bid.Up.Tv. Its run by south africans and the office is mixed and laid back. Its just one particular woman i had to train with that seems/ed to seeth a covert disliking of ethnic peoples. It was sad really cause shes Irish... was going to drop a few words on her when I get back tomorrow but it looks like Belfast is kicking off and I think it'll be enough to remind her of her past and the fact that it wasn't long ago that her people were in the same position as many other Ethnic people.
No Dogs - No Blacks - No Irish.
She is a horrid character, yellow broken teeth and all.
My at times blatant resentment comes from the fact that I'm self-Employed and finding the first few rungs difficult. Going to meetings and arranging builders to do demolition works etc and still finding that I'm not so resentful compared to others out there... builders that don't want to work for I & I giving stupid answers to questions.. fools that think I'm half witted only to be surprised when they find out that I can talk their language etc etc.
Respect is earned and not given I guess.
In a normal office in Central its cool. Do your job do it well and you get paid... I'm not here to put anyone off. But as said, I guess I do front line a bit... do you know how long it took me to open a business account? Lloyds TSB were just plain ignorant. RBS were cool, helps that the lady looking after my account is young(ish) and was down to earth, shame we can't get it together to mix business and pleasure

They do have a certain charm.
