Shades Beauty is a new online business started by myself, a black woman who was fed up with going to Pak and being viewed as a potential Jesse James. Yes, I wanted to buy makeup especially for black skin but not at ANY price.
So I used the experience I had gained working in mail order for many years and decided to strike out on my own. I managed to side-step the Asian wholesalers who tried to rip me off continually and sourced the product myself. Another reason for me setting up the site was to help the women who like myself don't live in London or have close access to shops that cater for women of colour. Customers can place their orders and I'll send them straight to their door.
I've advertised in the Black Beauty magazine and the African Caribbean Business Directory but would love to see more people supporting the site.
I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who, like me, is tempted to start off on their own. Take the plunge, go with your instinct and trust me its not as scary as you think. It can be done! Everyone started from somewhere - Richard Branson, Alan Sugar, Anita Roddick - they all wondered if they'd make it. So if you have an idea, do your research, study your market and then make your mark.
Come visit the site at http://www.shadesbeauty.co.uk

Lemoor, thank you so much for your encouragement. It is those sort of sentiments that make you want to try harder
In answer to your questions, entering the male grooming market is something that I'd love to get into. I just need to find myself a source manufacturer and I'll be off, so watch this space!!
I'm determined to make a success of this and I'm not scared of hard work, so we'll what happens next!!!
Thank You again
